What Mid-South weather does to siding

Long, humid summers are hard on every siding material. Wood siding swells, the paint fails, and rot starts at the bottom edges and around windows. Vinyl fades and goes brittle on the south and west walls. Then a spring hail storm finds every brittle panel at once.

Many homes in Bartlett, Cordova, Arlington and Lakeland are brick on the first floor with siding on the second story and gables. That siding is high up and out of sight, so storm damage often goes unnoticed until water shows up inside. We inspect every wall, including the ones you can’t see from the yard.

Siding materials we install

  • Vinyl and insulated vinyl. Affordable, low maintenance, and available in profiles that match most Memphis-area neighborhoods. Insulated vinyl is stiffer and stands up better to impact.
  • Fiber cement. Resists hail, rot, insects and fire, and takes paint well. A strong choice for older homes being restored and for anyone planning to stay.
  • Engineered wood. The look of real wood lap or board-and-batten, treated to resist moisture and insects. Popular on farmhouse-style homes in Arlington and Fayette County.
  • Trim, soffit and fascia. Wrapped and vented so the eaves breathe and never need paint.

Hail damage and insurance claims

Hail leaves cracks, chips and holes in vinyl and dents in metal trim, usually on the side of the house that faced the storm. We photograph and measure every hit and document the roof, gutters and windows on the same visit. If your siding is discontinued and a patch can’t match, we show your adjuster that too.

Calling right after the storm and keeping your own photos makes a big difference, and we’ll build on what you’ve already documented. We can meet your adjuster at the house.

Done right behind the panels

The siding you see is the rain screen. What keeps the walls dry is the house wrap, window flashing and kick-out flashing where a roof meets a wall. On every full re-side we replace the weather barrier and flash each opening, and we replace rotted sheathing before anything goes back on.

FAQ

Questions Memphis homeowners ask

Can you repair just part of my siding?

If we can match the profile and color, yes. If the siding is discontinued or brittle, replacing a full wall or the whole house often looks and lasts better. We show you both options.

Will insurance pay for hail-damaged siding?

Hail and wind damage is commonly covered, subject to your policy and deductible. We document everything your adjuster needs and can meet them on site.

Which siding is best for Memphis weather?

Fiber cement and engineered wood handle hail and humidity well. Insulated vinyl is a good value option. The right choice depends on your home’s style and how long you plan to stay; we’ll walk you through it.

Do you replace rotted sheathing under old siding?

Yes. Once the old siding is off, we replace any soft or rotted sheathing and install new weather barrier before the new siding goes on.
